Why has my vacuum cleaner stopped sucking up debris!?

I have a lightweight Hepa filter ‘Dirt Devil,’ which worked fantastically up until a few weeks ago when I paired it with a steam cleaner to scrub up stains in my carpet. Now, the brushes spin and scrub the carpet, but a lot of the dirt and debris isn’t being picked up.

I don’t know what I did with my manual – HELP!

Thanks! (:
It’s a ‘cup’ containing model, it doesn’t have a bag. The cup is emptied.

Also, of course I plugged it in, I’m not a bloody idiot.

The first thing to do is check for clogs. Start with the brush roll by clearing out any hair, threads, and debris that may be wrapped around the brush. Check the air pathways from the brush roll to the containment system. The most common point of clogging is the neck between the floor head and the vertical tube. The second most common clog point is the transition at the top of the tube into the containment system. You can download a new manual from the manufacturer. This site has manufacturer contact information.

If the belt is in good condition and everything is clear, then the vacuum is likely shot and needs to be replaced. For what it’s worth, Dirt Devil and Eureka are the two worst rated vacuums on the market. If cost is a factor then I would suggest looking at Bissell products. Bissell has much better quality machines than their competition in the entry level vacuum market.

If you can afford more vacuum, I would recommend something like the LG LUV300B which rivals a Dyson at about half the price.

You might have a blocked hose, pipes or filters, is the motor making a more than usual higher pitched noise ?

Normal vacuums are not designed to be used with steam or water which turns all dust to mud, also please consider the safety factor water and electrics don’t mix.

you broke it!!!! water can not go into a vacuum. wow next you will ask why you killed your baby when you paired your hair dryer with your bathwater!

    • If possible, see if you can open up the section between the bag/filter and the opening to clean it out.
